Designer Monica Dusi

Born and raised in Milan, Italy, Monica Dusi explored art and the world of acting since high school. Upon graduation from The International Theatre School, Monica steered her creative energies into theatre and body movement and furthered her studies with world-renowned master, Kuniaki Ida. In 2002, Monica moved to Los Angeles to attend The Colburn School of Performing Arts, and was involved in numerous visual art projects, where she developed a keen sense of creating avant-garde costumes. Monica founded the by Olive Company in 2006, with the focus of producing a line of Prêt-à-porter dresses, tops, t-shirts and handbags that are one of a kind. She uses a blend of contrasting elements: strength and fragility, modernity and tradition, strictness and fluidity. The intention is to realize an openly emotional and passionate reaction that costumers are quick to note.
Vintage and specialized fabrics are an integral part to the by Olive style. “Once I see a particular fabric, it dictates to me the piece it will become. I love to work with tulle, which gives an edge and volume to my creations.”
